A fixed bonded retainer is £200. A removable UK-made clear retainer is £195. Vivera retainers are £395 for a set of three for one arch, or £595 for three upper and three lower.

How long do I wear them?
For the long term. Most people wear removable retainers at night; a fixed retainer works around the clock. Teeth keep trying to move for years after treatment.

Every straightened tooth has a tendency to return to where it started. Retainers hold your teeth in their final positions after treatment. Some movement can still happen even with retainers, but it is kept in check. Not everyone can have a fixed retainer, and children often need a different type from adults, so we advise on what suits you.
A fixed retainer is a thin wire bonded behind your front teeth, working 24 hours a day. A clear Essix retainer is made from an impression of your teeth and can be ready in a day; we always advise one on top of a fixed retainer to hold the back teeth. Vivera retainers are Invisalign's branded version, supplied in sets of three so a lost or broken one is no crisis, and available to anyone, not only our Invisalign patients.

Which retainer is right for you?
A fixed retainer holds the front teeth constantly but is harder to clean and needs regular checks. A clear removable retainer is easy and discreet but only works when worn. A Hawley retainer, the older wire-and-acrylic type, is adjustable and still useful for children and for people who grind. Many patients end up with a fixed retainer plus a clear one over the top.

Do I have to wear a retainer after braces or Invisalign?
Yes. Studies show that without retainers, straightened teeth gradually shift back towards their original positions. Retainers protect the result and your investment.

A fixed retainer holds the front teeth constantly; a clear retainer is discreet and easy; Vivera retainers come in sets of three for peace of mind. Dr Priti advises on what suits you, and many patients have a fixed retainer with a clear one on top.
Can I get Vivera retainers if I had treatment elsewhere?
Yes. We supply Vivera retainers to anyone, not only our own Invisalign patients. Your digital impression is kept, so replacements can be ordered without an appointment.
