The consultation is £160, deducted from your fee if you start within three months. Metal braces are from £3,250 for one arch, Invisalign starts from £1,850 and lingual braces from £4,000.

Orthodontics moves teeth to better positions, for health as much as for appearance: crowded, spaced, twisted or protruding teeth, and bites that do not meet properly. At your first visit Dr Priti finds out what concerns you, examines you thoroughly and puts together a plan around your needs and preferences, with the pros and cons of each option so you are fully informed.
She uses the full range of appliances: Invisalign, fixed braces in metal or tooth-coloured ceramic, lingual braces behind the teeth, and removable and functional braces for children. Her preferred fixed system is 3M Clarity. Adults who have braces or Invisalign with us receive a week's supply of home whitening gel free of charge.

Your orthodontic treatment, step by step

Which appliance?
There is rarely one right answer. Aligners are removable and discreet but rely on you wearing them. Fixed braces work continuously and are often quicker. Lingual braces are hidden completely. Dr Priti explains the pros and cons of each for your case, and for minor moves a couple of clear aligners may be all you need.

Risks and what to expectOrthodontic treatment should not be painful, but expect pressure and discomfort for a few days after braces are adjusted or a new aligner is started; paracetamol helps. Braces make cleaning harder, and poor cleaning can leave permanent marks on the enamel, so hygiene visits and your regular dental examinations continue during treatment. Tooth roots can shorten slightly during any tooth movement. Teeth tend to drift back afterwards, so retainers are essential for the long term. You will be asked to read and understand the orthodontic consent form before treatment starts.

What is the difference between an orthodontist and a dentist?
All orthodontists are dentists, but not all dentists are orthodontists. Qualifying as a specialist in orthodontics takes additional years of postgraduate training, study and experience. Dr Priti Acharya is on the GDC specialist list for orthodontics and is a hospital consultant.
Does orthodontic treatment hurt?
It should not be painful, but you will feel pressure and some discomfort for a few days each time your braces are adjusted or you start a new aligner. It is temporary and manageable with over-the-counter painkillers such as paracetamol.
Should I still see my regular dentist during treatment?
Yes. Keep your regular examinations and hygiene visits so your teeth and gums stay healthy while they are moving.
Is it too late for me to have orthodontic treatment?
No. As long as you are generally fit and in good oral health, your age is no barrier. Dr Priti treats adults of all ages.
How much does an orthodontic consultation cost at Ethicare?
The orthodontic consultation is £160, including a digital iTero scan if needed, and it is deducted from your treatment fee if you start within three months.
