Bonding at Ethicare, in brief
How much does bonding cost?
£295 – £400 per tooth, depending on how much of the tooth is being built up. That is about half the cost of a porcelain veneer.
Who does it?
Dr Glafcos Tombolis, who layers and shapes the composite by hand to match the teeth either side.
Can I pay monthly?
Yes. 0% finance through Tabeo is available on treatment with Dr Glafcos, over 3, 6, 10 or 12 months, subject to status.
How long does it take?
One appointment. The composite sets straight away under a blue light, so you leave with a finished tooth you can use immediately.

A new shape, without giving anything up.
Look closely at a tooth and the colour changes from a darker neck to a translucent tip. Composite is placed in layers to mimic that, dentine first and then enamel, so a bonded tooth can very nearly match its neighbour or, if it is broken, copy what remains. It can change the shape and colour of teeth, close small gaps and even improve alignment.
Because it involves removing little or no tooth structure, bonding is exactly the kind of treatment we value: it can be added to, repaired or removed without affecting the tooth underneath. It has become a genuine alternative to porcelain veneers for many patients.

Your bonding, step by step
- 01AssessmentDr Glafcos checks the tooth, agrees the shape and shade with you and explains what bonding can and cannot do.
- 02PreparationThe tooth is cleaned and dried and a mild gel roughens the surface so the composite bonds firmly. Usually no anaesthetic is needed.
- 03LayeringComposite is built up in layers, colour-matched to your teeth or in a new shade across all of them, and set under a blue light.
- 04Shaping and polishThe tooth is shaped to your bite and polished to a natural shine. You can use it straight away.

Bonding or veneers?
Porcelain veneers are still the most predictable way to mask very dark teeth and the ultimate in cosmetics, but placing them removes enamel, and if porcelain fractures it has to be replaced. Bonding costs about half as much, keeps your tooth intact and can be repaired. For crooked teeth, straightening them first is often the better answer.

Am I suitable for composite bonding?
Most people are. Patients who have worn their teeth short through clenching or grinding are often ideal candidates, because composite adheres well and rebuilds the lost length. Dr Glafcos will tell you at your assessment if a different treatment would serve you better.
Can composite bonding be repaired?
Yes. Composite is a forgiving material that bonds to itself as well as to enamel, so chips can be added to and repaired. Larger damage may mean removing and replacing the bonding, still in a single appointment.
What are the alternatives to composite bonding?
Porcelain veneers, which mask very dark teeth better but remove enamel and cannot be repaired if they fracture. Whitening, if colour is the only concern. Or straightening, if the teeth are crooked. Bonding is about half the price of veneers and keeps your tooth intact.
How do I care for a bonded tooth?
Treat it like a natural tooth: brush and floss twice a day and keep your regular examinations, so we can check and polish the bonding.
Will composite bonding damage my teeth?
No. There is no need to remove a layer of enamel, so the composite can be applied, repaired and removed without affecting the tooth underneath.
