Assessment is £85, and a 3D CT scan £215 if one is needed. The surgery itself is priced after assessment, in writing, because a simple extraction and a sinus lift are very different procedures.
Who does the surgery?
Dr Yvonne Szyszko, specialist in oral surgery, who lectures and examines at the Royal College of Surgeons of England and works in a hospital oral and maxillofacial surgery department.
Can I be sedated?
Yes. Dr Yvonne is trained in sedation, and IV sedation is available for nervous patients and for long or complex procedures.
How long does recovery take?
A few days of swelling and discomfort for most extractions; a week or two for impacted wisdom teeth; longer, and more healing, after a bone graft or sinus lift before an implant can be placed.
Complex surgery, without leaving the practice.
The most common oral surgery is removing a tooth that forceps cannot: an impacted wisdom tooth, a tooth broken off at the gum, or one that has never come through. A small cut in the gum gives access, the tooth is removed, and the gum is stitched. Dr Yvonne removes the wisdom teeth most practitioners would consider challenging, faster and more comfortably.
Before an implant, some patients do not have enough bone. Dr Yvonne rebuilds it with a bone graft, or lifts the floor of the sinus in the upper jaw so grafting material can be placed. Once it has healed, Dr Glafcos Tombolis places the implant. Where a root-treated tooth has not settled, she can remove the root tip in an apicectomy. If you are nervous, or the procedure is long, IV sedation makes it a great deal easier.

Do you need a surgeon?
Many extractions are straightforward and done by our dentists. A wisdom tooth that is not causing problems can be left alone. Where bone is lacking for an implant, the alternatives to grafting are a shorter or narrower implant, or a bridge or denture instead. Dr Yvonne and Dr Glafcos plan implant cases together so you get one honest recommendation.

Is oral surgery painful?
You should not feel pain during the procedure: the area is numbed with local anaesthetic, and IV sedation is available. We check how you are feeling throughout. Some pain and swelling afterwards is normal and is managed with painkillers.
I am very nervous about oral surgery. Can you help?
Yes. Feeling nervous is completely normal and we see many patients who do. Dr Yvonne is trained in sedation, and IV sedation means you are deeply relaxed and remember little of the procedure. Talk to us and we will plan it around you.
How do I know if I need oral surgery?
It is usually picked up at your examination or an emergency appointment. If a tooth needs a surgical approach, or you need bone building before an implant, we explain why and arrange the appointment with Dr Yvonne.
Who places the implant after a bone graft or sinus lift?
Dr Yvonne Szyszko carries out the graft or sinus lift to prepare the site. Once it has healed, Dr Glafcos Tombolis places the implant, as he does for every implant at Ethicare.
